Story Dogs
Story Dogs is a wonderful volunteer run literacy program that improves primary school aged children’s reading and communication skills by having them read to a trained companion dog and their handler.
Dogs are ideal reading companions because they allow children to proceed at their own pace and are less intimidating than peers or adults. They listen attentively and do not judge, laugh or criticise.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Library is partnering with Story Dogs Australia to foster a supportive environment for children to grow and develop into confident, lifelong readers.
Children participating can bring their own books or access items from our wide-ranging collection.
We are now taking expressions of interest for 2026
