Thinking about switching from gas to electric? You can now borrow a portable induction cooktop from the library and experience the benefits before you buy.

Why choose induction?

Induction cooktops:

  • Offer faster heating, precise temperature control, and are preferred by many professional chefs
  • Can help households move toward becoming completely gas‑free

Replacing the last gas appliance in your home may also mean you can disconnect from the gas network entirely, saving approximately $350-$400 per year in fixed charges.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Library offers free Home Energy Kits and FLIR Thermal Cameras to help you identify ways to improve your home’s comfort and reduce energy use.

 

What’s in a Home Energy Kit?

  • Energy Saving Thermometer – Check hot water, fridge, freezer, and room temperatures
  • Mini Non‑Contact Thermometer – Identify hot or cold spots on walls, windows, and surfaces
  • Water Flow Measuring Cup – Measure how much water taps and showers use
  • PowerMate Lite Energy Meter – Track appliance energy use and spot unnecessary standby loads

Borrow a Thermal Camera

Our FLIR Thermal Cameras combine temperature measurement with thermal imaging to reveal drafts, air leaks, and insulation gaps. Fixing these issues can reduce heating and cooling costs and make your home more comfortable year‑round.
